Al-qāriʿatu

The Crashing Blow!

مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ٢

Mā l-qāriʿatu

What is the Crashing Blow?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ٣

Wamā adrāka mā l-qāriʿatu

What will explain to you what the Crashing Blow is?

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ ٤

Yawma yakūnu l-nāsu kal-farāshi l-mabthūthi

On a Day when people will be like scattered moths

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ ٥

Watakūnu l-jibālu kal-ʿih'ni l-manfūshi

And the mountains like tufts of wool,

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٦

Fa-ammā man thaqulat mawāzīnuhu

The one whose good deeds are heavy on the scales

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ ٧

Fahuwa fī ʿīshatin rāḍiyatin

Will have a pleasant life,

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٨

Wa-ammā man khaffat mawāzīnuhu

But the one whose good deeds are light

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ ٩

Fa-ummuhu hāwiyatun

Will have the Bottomless Pit for his home––

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ ١٠

Wamā adrāka mā hiyah

What will explain to you what that is?––
