الواقعة

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ ١

Idhā waqaʿati l-wāqiʿatu

When that which is coming arrives,

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ٢

Laysa liwaqʿatihā kādhibatun

No one will be able to deny it has come,

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ ٣

Khāfiḍatun rāfiʿatun

Bringing low and raising high.

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا ٤

Idhā rujjati l-arḍu rajjan

When the earth is shaken violently

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا ٥

Wabussati l-jibālu bassan

And the mountains are ground to powder

فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا ٦

Fakānat habāan munbathan

And turn to scattered dust,

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً ٧

Wakuntum azwājan thalāthatan

Then you will be sorted into three classes.

فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ ٨

Fa-aṣḥābu l-maymanati mā aṣḥābu l-maymanati

Those on the Right––what people they are!

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ٩

Wa-aṣḥābu l-mashamati mā aṣḥābu l-mashamati

Those on the Left––what people they are!

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ١٠

Wal-sābiqūna l-sābiqūna

And those in front––ahead indeed!
