At-Takwir
Makkah
إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ١
Idhā l-shamsu kuwwirat
When the sun is shrouded in darkness,
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ ٢
Wa-idhā l-nujūmu inkadarat
When the stars are dimmed,
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ ٣
Wa-idhā l-jibālu suyyirat
When the mountains are set in motion,
وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ ٤
Wa-idhā l-ʿishāru ʿuṭṭilat
When pregnant camels are abandoned,
وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ ٥
Wa-idhā l-wuḥūshu ḥushirat
When wild beasts are herded together,
وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ ٦
Wa-idhā l-biḥāru sujjirat
When the seas boil over,
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ ٧
Wa-idhā l-nufūsu zuwwijat
When souls are sorted into classes,
وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ ٨
Wa-idhā l-mawūdatu su-ilat
When the baby girl buried alive is asked
بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ ٩
Bi-ayyi dhanbin qutilat
For what sin she was killed,
وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ ١٠
Wa-idhā l-ṣuḥufu nushirat
When the records of deeds are spread open,
