At-Tariq
Makkah
Wal-samāi wal-ṭāriqi
By the sky and the night-comer––
Wamā adrāka mā l-ṭāriqu
What will explain to you what the night-comer is?
Al-najmu l-thāqibu
The piercing star––
In kullu nafsin lammā ʿalayhā ḥāfiẓun
There is a watcher over every soul.
Falyanẓuri l-insānu mimma khuliqa
Man should reflect on what he was created from.
Khuliqa min māin dāfiqin
He is created from spurting fluid,
Yakhruju min bayni l-ṣul'bi wal-tarāibi
Then he emerges from between the backbone and breastbone:
Innahu ʿalā rajʿihi laqādirun
God is certainly able to bring him back to life.
Yawma tub'lā l-sarāiru
On the Day when secrets are laid bare
Famā lahu min quwwatin walā nāṣirin
He will have no power and no one to help him.
