الغاشية

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ ١

Hal atāka ḥadīthu l-ghāshiyati

Have you heard tell [Prophet] about the Overwhelming Event?

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ ٢

Wujūhun yawma-idhin khāshiʿatun

On that Day, there will be downcast faces,

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ ٣

ʿāmilatun nāṣibatun

Toiling and weary,

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً ٤

Taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyatan

As they enter the blazing Fire

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ ٥

Tus'qā min ʿaynin āniyatin

And are forced to drink from a boiling spring,

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ ٦

Laysa lahum ṭaʿāmun illā min ḍarīʿin

With no food for them except bitter dry thorns

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ ٧

Lā yus'minu walā yugh'nī min jūʿin

That neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ ٨

Wujūhun yawma-idhin nāʿimatun

On that Day there will also be faces radiant with bliss,

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ ٩

Lisaʿyihā rāḍiyatun

Well pleased with their labour,

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ ١٠

Fī jannatin ʿāliyatin

In a lofty garden,
